Hot Spiced Holiday Wine
It's the most wonderful time of the year! Alongside caroling, gift-giving, and decorating the tree, one of the most treasured events in December is the holiday party. If you're expecting to host a crowd and want to serve a memorable drink without having to bartend all night, consider making a batch of delicious hot spiced holiday wine. Known throughout the world as mulled wine, glogg, or gluehwein, our take on the recipe is easily customizable to suit your tastes and is a breeze to put together.
INGREDIENTS:
2 bottles red wine (one sweet, one dry) | |
4 cups apple cider | |
2/3 cup brandy | |
1/4 cup honey | |
4 cinnamon sticks | |
2 oranges, sliced | |
6 whole cloves | |
10 black peppercorns | |
Optional spices: 1 whole star anise, 4 green cardamom pods, 1 sliced knob of ginger |

Additional cinnamon sticks and orange slices for garnish |
DIRECTIONS
1. | Stir together the wine, cider, brandy, honey, orange slices, and spices in a large pot. |
2. | Bring to a bare simmer over low heat for 20-25 minutes (don't boil). |
3. | Remove spices. Serve in heatproof glasses, garnishing with a cinnamon stick and fresh orange slices. Keep warm on very low heat. |
